The Flor Contemplacion Story

Justice was implemented to protect our people and not to hurt them. Many of us have been started over again for committing the justice, many of us have been desperate for having it, and worst, many of us have been victims because of it.

It is the catastrophic situation we are having right now and then. It is so devastating to think that life is so unfair, that life is unpredictable. We could not deny now a days that justice did not revealed in such a right way and in a God way. Many innocent people were killed while many criminals still rambling on the streets because of having UNRIGHT JUSTICE!

On 1995, Flor Contemplacion was sentenced to death. She was a victim of the wrong time, of influential people, of inhuman torture and victim of unfair justice!

Flor Contemplacion was born on January 7, 1953 in San Pablo City, Laguna, Philippines. Mother of 4 children and wife of Efren Contemplacion. A devoted mother went to Singapore and worked as maid where her employer treated her fairly. After two years of contract, Flor returned to Philippines and had planned of going back to Singapore as her employer made her a favor to extend one more year. Flor was restrained by her husband in going back to Singapore but Flor did not stop to, as she discovered her husband's another woman, Neneng.

In 1991, Flor returned to Singapore as she promised her employer. She was treated well there. However, on March 17, 1995, she was arrested and executed by hanging for allegedly murdering another maid, Delia Maga and the Singaporean boy whom Delia was taking care of.

As policed reported, the murdered happened on May 4, 1991 at Singapore. A Filipino domestic worker Delia Maga was found strangled to death while the four- year- old boy that she was taking care of, Nicholas Huang, was discovered drowned.

The hours before the tragic happened, Flor visited Delia Maga on the next door which happened the Delia's employer's apartment as well. Flor favored to Delia to have those package for her family as Delia was scheduled to returned to the Philippines. As they were talking, they heard a crashed near part to the bathroom and Delia run rushed towards it and found Nicholas Huang drowning. Flor helped her to take the child's body and when they checked the pulse it was dead already as child also had an Epileptic Syndrome. Delia pled with Flor to leave the house for she will not get involved about what happened. Flor leave and heard nothing more about Delia after many days.

Just one day, Flor arrested for killing Delia Maga and the child, Nicholas Huang. She then confessed the murders after undergoing of many physical torment from the Singaporean police. Flor was then sentenced to death by hanging.

Just before her execution, two Filipinos witnesses claimed that Huang's father framed Contemplacion for the murders. One of the witnesses, Virginie Parumog, heard Delia's employer confessed the murder to his brother which happened her employer and did not aware that Parumog could understand Malay as she worked before in Malaysia.

Parumog's life at the time was in danger but she still  rushed up to the Philippines Embassy to confessed what she heard and to help Flor for being executed. But unfortunately, Parumog failed as Philippines Embassy advises her to just shut up and just leave it as Delia's employer was an influential person and has a strong grip on the Singaporean government. And warned her to may not get home if she disclosed what she heard.

Many Filipino people believed that Contemplacion was innocent, or at least suffering from insanity if she did not commit the murders. They blamed the Singaporean government for not being merciful despite of Philippines President Fidel Ramos's personal plea to stop it.

The execution caused a major diplomatic row between Singapore and the Philippines. There were protests outside the Singapore Embassy in Manila. Flor had said, before her execution that she was ready to die after all the final pleas was insisted. Flor was visited daily in Changi by her 4 children but her husband Efren refused to as he could not bear to see her wife on that situation.

On March 17, 1995, Flor was first had a prayer and hanged before dawn together with three male drug traffickers amidst scenes of unusually tight security.

Anger swept the Philippines as the news spread that Flor was dead. Many people cried, hurt, angry and felt sorrow about Flor's upshot.

Flor was a devoted mother, a hardworking enough to sacrificed herself to be away from her family, an unfortunate individual and a victim of UNRIGHT JUSTICE!
